Home Remedies for Ringworm of the Scalp

Ringworm is not a worm, but a fungus infection such as athlete's foot. Ringworm is easily identified by red circles that appear anywhere on the body including the scalp. Ringworm infection of the scalp is difficult to spot until the fungus spreads and is evident in the form of bald patches where hair once was. Treatment of the fungal infection is necessary otherwise the hair will not grow back and the infection will spread. Ringworm is contagious and may spread to family, friends and pets.

Garlic is an effective anti-fungal remedy for ringworm due to its natural anti-fungal properties. Slice open a fresh clove of garlic and rub the juice all over the surface of the affected area. Many cloves of garlic may be needed to treat severe ringworm infection.

Coconut Oil may be used for the treatment and cure of ringworm. Rub the oil onto the affected areas three times daily. Home remedies do not work as quickly as  prescription cures; therefore, perseverance and consistency is required to rid the scalp of unsightly ringworm infection.

Oil from Holy Basil Leaves mixed with lemon juice and applied to the ringworm on the scalp is said to be an effective remedy. Apply the oil-mix three times daily for as long as it’s required to rid the scalp of fungal infection. This remedy is tried and true comes from a sacred plant grown in almost every house in India and worshipped every day.

Raw papaya slices are rubbed onto the ringworm patches three times daily. The ground seeds of the papaya may also be worked into a paste and applied to the ringworm on the scalp. Keep using this home remedy until the ringworm has disappeared and the hair begins to sprout on the bald patches.

Raw juice from turmeric is used to rub onto the ringworm patches three times daily. Mix one teaspoon of turmeric juice with one teaspoon of honey and take by mouth daily to work as an internal booster for the immune system. This remedy is safe to use for as long as necessary.

Grind seeds from the herb Butea into a paste with a mortar and pestle adding a teaspoon of fresh lime juice to make the paste more pliable. Apply the sticky paste to the affected areas on the scalp twice daily until hair returns to the once bald patches.
