How to Test an Egg for FreshnessBy Victoria Ries Eggs are best bought straight from the farm; however, if you don't live near a farm and have to rely on the store for your egg supply, it's good to know how to test them for freshness. By the time supermarket eggs reach the shelves, they are between two weeks and one month old. Sell-by dates are known to be inaccurate. So how do you tell if it's a bad egg or a good egg? InstructionsThings you'll need:
1.
Wash all your eggs in cold water. Discard dirty water.
Place clean eggs in large bowl of clean cold water.
Watch carefully for eggs that float. The reason bad eggs float is because they're full of air—rotten eggs.
Remove all bad eggs and discard. Dry off the good eggs (the ones that sunk), and carefully place in egg cartons. Refrigerate.
